
Gene V. Roe has been involved with planning, surveying, GIS and civil engineering for almost forty years. He received his BS, MS and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering - the latter in 1981 from the University of New Hampshire. Gene has worked in the federal government, academia, construction, private practice and he began working in the software industry in 1990. Before the Internet he launched a number of industry newsletters, including Softdesk’s Tech Talk.
While in private practice Gene worked on many land planning and real estate development projects. In 1984 he started the first GIS consulting firm in New England. Gene holds two US patents for a mobile GPS device, and he worked for Public Works Canada on a SCADA project involving 110 federal buildings. Most recently he has been involved with the use of remote sensing to classify land use and surface materials. He lives at the beach in New Hampshire, enjoys rowing and collecting 60’s muscle cars.
